Description
This hydraulic power steering pump is suitable for selected BMW 1 Series E87 and 3 Series E90 models fitted with the N46 petrol engine. It generates the hydraulic pressure that reduces the effort required to turn the steering wheel, particularly during parking and low-speed manoeuvres.
A failing power steering pump may cause the steering to feel unusually heavy, inconsistent or slow to respond. Other warning signs can include whining or groaning noises while turning, fluid leaks around the pump, foaming in the reservoir or reduced steering assistance when the engine is idling.
When replacing an N46 power steering pump, inspect the fluid reservoir, hoses, connections and drive belt for leaks, restrictions or wear. The system should be filled with the correct fluid and bled properly after installation, as trapped air can cause noise and poor steering assistance.
This pump is intended for compatible BMW E87 and E90 applications with the N46 engine. Professional installation is recommended to ensure the hydraulic system is clean, correctly connected and free of air.
