Description
This N47 oil filter housing is compatible with selected BMW E-Series vehicles fitted with the N47 diesel engine, including the 1 Series E81, E87 LCI, E82 Coupé and E88 Convertible; 3 Series E90 Sedan, E91 Touring, E92 Coupé and E93 Convertible; 5 Series E60 LCI; X1 E84; and X3 E83 LCI.
The housing secures the oil filter and directs engine oil through the lubrication system. Damage to the housing or its sealing surfaces can allow oil to escape, reducing the amount available to lubricate and protect internal engine components.
Possible warning signs include visible oil around the filter housing, oil collecting on nearby engine components, a burning-oil smell or a gradually falling oil level. A leak in this area can also contaminate nearby hoses and drive belts if it is not repaired.
Before replacing the housing, inspect the filter cap, seals and surrounding connections to identify the source of the leak. The mounting surfaces should be cleaned carefully, and the housing must be installed using the correct tightening sequence and torque specifications.
